Jean Jones

Jean is a retired nurse who moved here in 2014. She comes from a medical family and decided late in life [aged 39] to become a nurse.  Most of her 30 years in nursing were spent in the oncology area and she soon was working for Hospice.  Along the way Jean studied and became a Stephen Minister.  After the death of her husband, she spent 9 months traveling to Rockford Memorial Hospital to study one unit of C.P.E. (Clinical Pastoral Education).

Here in Mattoon,  she keeps busy in the volunteer area for S.B.L.H.  You will often find her behind the register in the Gift Shop or serving the patients in the Cancer Center.

Jean feeds her spirit by enjoying fabric and in fact is a fabric-aholic.  (fabric addict)  She also delights in cooking, making cards, walking on the treadmill and hiking at Douglas-Hart Nature Center.  She has two daughters, one in Star Valley,WY and the other in Wayland, MI.  In the Spring and summer she finds that the weeds around the church call her name and it is satisfying to pull them.

Fun Fact:  In 2011 Jean and other church members took part in a charity called St. Baldricks Day.  As a fundraiser for that Foundation, they asked for donations and shaved their heads!  It was a fun event!
