ADULT/FAMILY ACTIVITIES

Sunday Worship

Sunday worship is at 9:30 a.m.  All are welcome at First Presbyterian Church.  Children are welcome in the sanctuary and may go forward for the Children's Chat with the Pastor if they choose to do so.  After Children's Chat, they may return to their parents or go on to Children's Church.  Childcare is provided for babies through age 4.

Sunday School

During the school year, at 8:30 a.m. on Sundays, Adult Sunday School meets in the church parlor.  Childcare is provided.

Choir

During the Fall, Winter, and Spring, the Westminister Choir, directed by Dick Barta, meets each Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. for practice in the Choir Room.   Then the Westminster Choir sings at 9:30 a.m. worship service.  Please join us!  The Choir does not meet in the Summer.

Women's Circles

The women of the church have two different circles for fellowship and study that meet monthly in the church parlor.

The Sarah Circle meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 10:30 a.m.  If you are interested in joining, please contact the church at 217-234-6722.

The Priscilla Circle meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.  Please contact the church office at 217- 234-6722 for more information about the Priscilla Circle.

Presbyterian Women
        Women's Committee Moderator is Florence Beck.  

Sacred Mission Stitchers (SMS)

This group meets on the first Sunday of the month at 2:00 p.m.  They knit and crochet prayer shawls, baby caps, cancer caps, baby afghans, lap robes, and scarves for the Red Scarf Orphan Project and for WWII veterans. This items are blessed and then given to those in need.  Yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks, and patterns are available.  If you do not know how to crochet or knit, they will teach you.  New members are always welcome!

Sunshine Brigade

Thursday Morning Bible Study

This group meets for Bible study in the Church parlor at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday mornings.  New members are welcome at any time.

Lenten Bible Study

During Lent, this group meets on Wednesday evenings, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. for a special Lenten study.  The group are welcome to eat supper with Kids Club at 5:50 p.m. before going to the Church parlor for the class.

Advent Bible Study

During Advent, this group meets on Wednesday evenings, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. for a special Advent study.  The group is welcome to eat supper with Kids Club at 5:50 p.m. before going to the Church parlor for the class.

Mystery Book Club

The Mystery Book Club meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the parlor to discuss a new mystery.  The book club is open to new members at any time.  Bring a sandwich and join the fun!

Men's Group

YOUTH/CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES

Sunday School

Sunday School is offered on Sunday mornings at 8:30 a.m. for youth (grades 6-12), upper elementary (grades 2-5), lower elementary (grades Pre-K, K, & 1), and toddlers (ages 2-3).
   

Children's Church

Children's Church is offered for children age 4-12 during the 9:30 a.m. church service.  Children's Church is a service where kids learn about God through scripture, stories, and music tailored to their age group.

Kids Club

During the regular school year, Kids' Club meets each Wednesday night from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for children aged 4 yr. through 5th grade.  Supper is offered along with games, music, crafts, and fun.  If Mattoon schools are closed due to weather or not in session due to holidays, etc., Kids' Club will not meet.   During the summer, Kids Club meets as announced for various fun field trips/activities.  For more info, call Toby Montgomery at 234-6722.

Kids Club Holiday Celebrations

Kids Club Holiday Celebrations include Trunk or Treating, a Christian celebration of Halloween; Thanksgiving Dinner; Christmas Party; Valentines Party; and Easter Egg Hunt.   Families enjoy a meal togeth, play games, make crafts, and just have fun together.  Friends and family are invited and encouraged to attend.

Youth Groups

Middle School Youth Group meets at the Church on Sunday afternoons, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.  We share a snack, discuss Christian issues and Bible studies, work on mission projects, and enjoy fellowship activities.   For more info, call Toby Montgomery at 234-6722.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School is offered in the summer for children ages 2-5th grade.
